Hi everyone! I hope you have all enjoyed your first week at UCB or for those of you who may not have moved in yet, I hope you are excited to do so!
With the Freshers Fayre soon approaching (Wednesday 13th August) I thought I would write to you about why joining a society will add your amazing uni experience.
Before coming to university one piece of advice I was given was to join a society. Now, having been at university, and a part of a society, for a whole year, this is some advice I would suggest future students look at and follow. Here are some reasons why I would recommend joining a society:
- Joining a society is a great way to meet more people and make new friends. No matter what society you join, everyone is welcoming and wants you to have the best possible time. I found that by joining a society I got to meet people who are doing different courses, as well as people who live close to me at home, which was great! It has been nice to make friends with people who are in the years above as they have been able to give me advice and even help me with uni work.
- Another reason why I think it’s good to join a society is that it gets you out of the house. During those busy times at uni when deadlines are approaching it is nice to get out of that space, have a break from uni work and have fun doing something you love.
- Societies at UCB are happy to take students on no matter what their level – whether you have done it before or not, everyone is welcome. This means that by joining a society you can have the opportunity to try something new.
- Keeping fit is another great reason to join a society. Being a student can often mean more budgeting and saying goodbye to many luxuries such as gym membership which can be very expensive. Therefore, by joining a sporting society you can keep fit and have fun whilst doing so.
I have loved being a part of the cheerleading society here at UCB and will write a piece on this soon. However, you don’t have to join a UCB society. There are other university societies you can join also as seen on UCBlogger Jade’s post.
I hope you have found this post helpful and are looking forward to talking to different societies at the Freshers Fayre.
See you there!
