Hello everyone, and happy December!
On Thursday night I went to a carol service. I don’t know if something was put in the mince pies, but it hit me with a sudden wave of Christmas excitement!
To celebrate the beginning of the festive season I thought I’d write this week’s post about some of my Christmas favourites.
Films
My nostalgic favorite is the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street. I have strong memories of watching this when I was little and I love it for that reason. It’s currently on Netflix UK. My other feel good favorites are Home Alone, Nativity and The Holiday. They always make me smile when I watch them.
Songs
Don’t tell anyone… but despite my obsession with Christmas, I don’t actually like Michael Buble that much! I prefer slightly older ones – my favourite song is Bing Crosby’s version of ‘White Christmas’, as well as Frank Sinatra’s ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’ If I fancy a more upbeat song, I love ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! And ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ by Slade. I usually listen to Now That’s What I Call Christmas on Spotify.
Drinks
The Birmingham Christmas market stalls do an amazing Bailey’s hot chocolate, but if you prefer something non-alcoholic, I also love Costa’s Black Forest Hot Chocolate. My Dad makes an amazing mulled wine from the Hairy Bikers’ 12 days of Christmas recipe book.
Traditions
As mentioned at the beginning, I went to a carol service on Thursday which is one of my favourite things to do at Christmas. It really puts me in a Christmassy mood and I love singing all of the traditional carols. Another thing I love to do is put up and decorate the tree. Growing up, I’ve always had a real tree and I am a passionate fan of them. However, student life makes that difficult so I’ve had to settle for a fake one until I can go home to my family’s real one. We put it up after the carols- it’s so nice to have in the living room. We switch the lights on in the evening to give the room a cosy feeling.
