Hello everyone,
I thought this week I would share some of the things I have been loving this winter! I usually love winter, but this year it seems to have been going on for a long time and I am looking forward to warmer weather and lighter evenings. Despite not loving the season, I’ve had a great few months and here are some of the things that I have been particularly loving:
Beauty/Skincare
Too Faced Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette
I have had my eye on this palette for a long time and this Christmas my parents bought it for me as a gift! The colours really bring out my blue eyes and the shadows are long lasting on me when I usually struggle with eye shadows creasing after half a day of wear! They’re also really easy to blend and have a lovely range of colours.
The Body Shop Matte Clay skin clarifying foundation
I picked this up on the recommendation of a friend and absolutely love it! It’s a perfect amount of coverage for me, it balances out my complexion but feels more like moisturiser on my face than an actual foundation. It also matches my skin tone! I usually find it quite hard to find a colour pale enough for me, so I will definitely buy this again when my current one runs out.
Lush Helping Hands hand cream
Over the holidays, I worked in a bakery a few days a week and with the cold weather and constantly having to wash my hands, they got very dry. It got a little painful and so one day after work I went to Lush and I saw a pot that said “for hands that spend too much time in sinks,” and knew it was the one for me. My hands feel so soft after using it and I try and put it on every night before bed.
Music
The Greatest Showman soundtrack
Despite not loving the film (I didn’t hate it either- was just hoping that the songs would be more broadway-esque and that the characters were a little underdeveloped) I REALLY like the soundtrack- particularly the upbeat ones like ‘The Other Side’ ‘Rewrite The Stars’ and ‘From Now On’. I’ve been listening to it a lot on my commute to university.
Films/TV
The Post
Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in a film together- what’s not to love?! It’s all about The Washington Post and US Government secrets surrounding the Vietnam War. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to spoil it, but I thought it was amazing!
Silent Witness
The highlight of my new year is always Silent Witness coming back on TV (that makes me sound really sad, I know). It’s a crime drama following a team made up of pathologists and forensic scientists who assist the police in solving crimes. It’s really gripping and I enjoy the complexity of some of the cases.
Trips
Harry Potter studio tours
For Christmas, my grandparents got me and my sister tickets to go to the Harry Potter Studio Tours in Watford. I went in 2012 and 2013 but since then they’ve brought in new pieces including the Hogwarts express and the forbidden forest. I love going there because I love all things Harry Potter and it’s so fun to see all the detail that was put into the sets, costume and design.
Theatre
My sister and I also got a few theatre tickets for Christmas: The Book of Mormon, Hamilton and Aladdin, as well as winning tickets to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child again at the beginning of the holidays. I love going to the theatre so much- I love the experience of seeing live performances (particularly musicals) and as Miss Medda Larkin of the musical ‘Newsies’ would say: “Where better to escape trouble than the theatre?”
If you have any particular favourites this winter, then please share them in the comments!
Until next time,
Ellie x
