I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the first week back at uni.
Heading into the new year, I made the resolution of thinking more about me. With this comes the idea of doing things I want to do. Ever since I was little I have always been one to make wishes and have dreams of things I’d like to do someday. But that’s all they have been….wishes and dreams. It is very rare that I have had the courage to go out and do those things because if I’m honest I can be one of those people who overthinks and asks myself what could go wrong. But this year I am going to step out of my comfort zone, say yes to more things, and instead think: what could go right?
My dad has always taught me about a thing called ‘The T-Junction Of Life’ explaining if I can do something to change a situation to take that path and do it, and if I can’t, then I can’t. However, this year I have gained a new perspective on the idea of ‘The T-Junction of Life.’
I have often been one to follow the flow of what others are doing whether that be eating junk food, partying every night or simply going to uni, coming home and doing nothing. Which is okay to do sometimes, but this year I want to do more and actually make something of my life. I have been thinking about what more I can do reach those dreams of having my ideal job, having my own house and being able to go on holiday where ever I want.
This year I have decided to start making my own path by doing things I want to do and things that are more likely to help turn the wishes into a reality. I have taken a chance on a new job and have taken a risk in buying my own car and taking it to uni. I have even put myself out there and decided to do more volunteer work within the events industry – a path I would normally have thought twice about.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t let 2018 be the year full of just wishes and dreams. Instead, do more of what makes you happy and don’t always go with the flow of what everyone else wants or is doing. Try and take your own path to make those wishes and dreams a reality whether that be by putting yourself out there through volunteer work or by saving those pennies you would have otherwise spent going with the flow of everyone else.
I’m not saying don’t go out partying ever again or don’t watch Netflix ever again. I’m simply saying it’s okay to do those things if you want to, but if you want to do more don’t be afraid to step out of the flow and do what you want. Remember, it’s your life, don’t be afraid to try something new that could lead you to your wishes and dreams. Stop worrying about what could happen and think…
What could go right?
