The mom tag

Hi guys, so with Mother’s Day less than a month away I thought I would catch my mom while she wasn’t too busy and get her to answer a few questions about motherhood.

How old were you when you had your first child?

“53 minus 21. So I was 32.”

What was the hardest thing about being pregnant for 9 months?

“Body changes I think. It’s hard to see your figure change completely. Especially if you’re very active.”

Can you think of any good things you enjoyed during those nine months?

“The maternal feelings and love you have as your baby is growing. I loved looking at pictures in the baby book that showed you how you were developing.”

In your opinion, were all the things you heard about childbirth accurate or way off?

“Somewhere in-between. Obviously because I was already a nurse I had a pretty good idea of what it would be like.”

Would you have handled childbirth differently if you could re-do it?

“No, I think I was quite well organised and prepared really.”

What would be your advice for someone who is about to have a baby?

“Accept help when it’s offered to you! Also, enjoy your baby because time goes too fast. Make time for yourself as well to relax.”

What has been the hardest thing about being a mom?

“There is no rule book. You have to make decisions on the spot and hope they are the best ones. That’s a little scary.”

What has been the most rewarding thing about being a mom?

“When your child achieves goals and milestones. There is no feeling like seeing your child happy and successful.”

What was the most surprising thing you discovered about being a mom?

“When your baby hides in the cupboard and jumps out on you. I’m joking. No seriously, it would be how fast the time goes.”

What is the best memory you have involving your child?

“Simple things make you happy. Things like going to the park and the beach. Lots of happy memories. I really love teaching you and your sister things. Like drawing and driving. When you can finally do it it’s like waaaahaaayyy!”

What was the most exciting milestone?

“When you passed your driving test and when you achieve really amazing grades. Obviously, I’m very excited for your graduation.”

What is the worst thing your child has ever done?

“Oh god! When you ate all your advent calendar in one go. Amber’s was when she cut her fringe off.”

What habit did you wish your child didn’t have?

“Messing with your nose piercing. Also, your 20 minute showers.” …I knew she was going to say that.

What habit of theirs makes you most proud?

“Weird question Jade.”

I didn’t write these mom!

“That you take pride in your appearance. I think that’s a good one.”

Do you share any similarities with your child (both Physical and Personality)?

“Height obviously. And we are both a little OCD aren’t we.”

Where would you like your child to be in 10 years?

“Happy and successful. Maybe a grandchild if any man can put up with you that long.”

What is something your child has taught you?

“Technology stuff. How to work Snapchat filters.”

Did you imagine that you’d be a mom at the age that you became a mom?

“No, I think I probably thought I would have been younger. I left it… not too late, but a little later than I thought.”

Describe your child in a single sentence?

“Pain in the ass. Have you put that? Don’t actually put that.” She says laughing at me. “Kind caring and sensitive.”

How have you changed as a person since becoming a mom?

“I’m less selfish now I guess. You have to put your children first. Also, now I’m poorer. Don’t put that either.”
