Part two of my birthday celebrations saw me celebrating a whole lot more with work colleagues, friends and family. On my actual birthday (that random Tuesday) my mum came down to Birmingham on the train with my dog. We went for lunch at 1000 Trades – a dog friendly pub in the Jewellery Quarter – and had a lovely selection of tapas before heading to the Button Factory around the corner, which was also dog friendly to my delight as the weather was beaut and they have a little terrace upstairs where we sat and enjoyed the sunshine.
I only really started exploring the Jewellery Quarter this summer and wish I had done it sooner as it has so many little hidden gems and surrounds the university, so I’d highly recommend you venture out on your lunch breaks for a bite to eat.
Fast forward to the Bank Holiday weekend. My work ‘family’ decided to surprise me with go karting at Teamworks Karting in Digbeth (£25pp which they covered as their little treat). The staff were quick and friendly, acknowledged it was my birthday and presented me with some sort of bright pink sock to put over my head and under my helmet!
It was ten minutes per race and you spend about one hour there in total including briefings, breaks and time to change into your suit. The circuit is great with some tricky bends and one long straight where you can really put your foot down to try to overtake your competitors. It was so much fun and as we were in Digbeth, a quirky area filled with some of Birmingham’s best independent bars, we stopped off for a glass of wine at The Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen before heading back towards the Colmore area for one last stop at Purnell’s Bistro where they had reserved a little table for some bubbles!
One last thing to end me rambling on about my endless birthday celebrations… if there’s any advice I can give to you on your birthday it’s to stick ‘Birthday Freebies’ into your Google search to see what’s up for grabs to help you celebrate. Examples of freebies include express facials or eyebrow waxing, a bottle of prosecco with a meal or my favourite giveaway of a free doughnut! These obviously come on the condition of you downloading an app or registering an email address but some of the deals are really worth it. take a look at one of the lists I found at https://intu.co.uk/inspire-me/everything-you-can-get-for-free-on-your-birthday.Mischke
I am continuously looking online for tips that can benefit me.
Thank you!
