Life at UCB through the eyes of our student bloggers

Journey to UCB

Journey to UCB

Hello!

It has been a very busy week, so I thought I would tell you a bit more about where I have been before moving to Birmingham and a little about my time spent here in Birmingham as a UCB student.

Army

Before leaving Portugal I served for a little more than 2 years in the Portuguese Army(Infantry), it was something I wanted to experience while I could, I also wasn’t sure what I would want to study at the time either and I didn’t want to sit around.

I learnt alot and had some fun in the army, I definitely agree that it makes you grow as a person.

Gstaad – Switzerland

  • After my contract in the Army ended I had applied to study at UCB, I took this time from May to travel a little through Portugal(Porto, Lisbon, Coimbra, Braga, Lamego) until June, as I waited for my acceptance letter from UCB, I travelled to Switzerland where I was to work during the Summer as a Kitchen Porter and assisting the kitchen team at Park Gstaad although I worked through Summer I managed to enjoy the Swiss Summer, met amazing people, saw amazing places… plus… beer was surprisingly cheap in the supermarkets so can’t really complain!

Birmingham

As September came I flew directly from Switzerland to Birmingham, during the Summer I had arranged to live in UCB’s student accomodation, Cambrian Hall for my first year, I enjoyed living there and made friends from all across the world(Singapore, Nepal, Turkey, Germany, Czech, I could go on…)  it’s literally across the street from UCB and pretty close to everything you may need  and most of the students there are international so it is a great cultural diversity you will have no problem meeting people if you will be living there, I garantee it.

That is all for this week, I’m going to try enjoy some days off now, bye!
