Ready for the academic year 2019/20?

Hello, hello, hello, everyone!!! I hope you are ready for a new academic year. A year full of new experiences. I am, with my arms wide open to give this year a big, massive hug!!! What about you? Are you ready and excited for 2020????

Today I want to share with you all the things I’ve been doing in preparation for the start of uni since I arrived on Thursday 5 September.

Before I start, I would like to tell you a bit about something that my friends and I were discussing to do for this year. We planned to get a house together, but we weren’t very convinced due to all the things you can lose out on when living away from student accommodation (such as using The Maltings gym, or joining Zumba, yoga, meeting new people, etc.). Therefore, we all put down our names to get our rooms together in The Maltings. After imagining so many times how our day to day would be, with all of us living together, we made it. It finally happened!!

I am so happy and excited about this year because I believe that every year, every month, week, day, is exceptional and an experience worth living. That’s why I think everyone must live in the moment so that you wake up every day with a smile on your face. Now I realise that I’ve been fortunate meeting them from the very beginning and they have become a fundamental part of my life.

Now I am going to tell you how I have organised myself to settle down in my room. As I said earlier, I arrived in Birmingham on the 5th. Therefore I had two days left to be able to get the room. I spent those two days with my boyfriend, celebrating our first anniversary. He picked me up from the airport with a bunch of flowers and a big A3 poster saying happy anniversary in Spanish and on the back it had a heart with my name and our morning hello, “Good morning, Buenos Dias, Dzien Dobry” (I think I haven’t mentioned him before, but he is Polish, and I’m half British and half Spanish, so we try to mix our languages). It was a very romantic and lovely thing that all girls like, a movie moment.

When I moved into my accommodation, the first thing I did was pick up my boxes from the storage and then I just relaxed for the rest of the weekend with my boyfriend. We went for breakfast (guys if you have some time in the morning and want to have a really nice English breakfast or any other type or even lunch, I highly recommend the boat in front of the ICC by the canals – it’s a really nice and unique experience, and they have reasonable prices), lunch (we also went to my favourite Polish restaurant – Polish Millennium, Bordesley St, Birmingham B5 5PH) and shopping.

On Monday I started my proper moving in, and I started cleaning the room, doing laundry with my bedsheets, pillows, quilt, towels (basically all the essential so that they were fresh and ready for me to sleep in) and also sorting out my kitchen cupboards which I even cleaned (the cleaning I am referring to is just disinfecting everything). All of this took me four full days to complete, but I feel so happy now, and I’m finally settled down in my room.

Last Thursday (12 September) once I finished with my room I went with my friends to the Guild to watch The Greatest Showman (I watched it before, and I loved it, watching it for the second time I loved it even more – you can find it on Netflix if you haven’t watched it, it’s a really nice film).

I am impatient and excited about what this year will bring me. This week I wish you all a nice and smooth academic year.
