Life at UCB through the eyes of our student bloggers

Save money on your room essentials

Save money on your room essentials

Hey guys,

I hope you are enjoying Freshers’ Week, and since most of the students are starting to settle down in their new houses or dorms, you have been asking me where to buy stuff for your room really cheap. Here are some tips.

This year UCB organised a trip to IKEA, which was a great opportunity for the students to buy all the essentials for their rooms. But do not worry if you missed this, there are still affordable places in the city centre where you can purchase everything you need.

When I moved here for the first time I bought most of my stuff in B&M, where you can find all the essentials for kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. If you do not mind spending more money on this, you might consider shopping in Argos. As far as I know they make packages of essentials for freshers, but the price is not that student friendly.

If you want to make your room cosy and get some decorations, you should definitely consider having a look in Primark. You can find some photo frames, cushions, candles and more in their home section. What’s more, they have a wider variety of bed sheets than any other store in Birmingham! And the last of the “cheap” stores is Poundland which is really cheap, but the range of products is not that big, although it is worth going there!

I hope this post helped you to plan your shopping. Here is my list of essentials:

Kitchen:

  • Pots and pans
  • Plates and bowls
  • Cutlery
  • Utensils
  • Knives
  • Glasses or cups
  • Strainer

Bathroom:

  • Towels
  • Toothbrush holder

Bedroom:

  • Bedding
  • Bed sheets
  • Pillows
  • Lamp
  • Hangers
  • Laundry basket
  • Clothes dryer/hanger
  • File organiser
  • Chargers/adapters
  • Bin
  • All the decorations you can think of

Make sure you break your piggy bank and start shopping! Do not forget enjoying yourself.  Freshers’ Week is on so have a look at the programme UCB has prepared for freshers and get on it!
