Movember

Movember

Hello everyone!

Today I want to talk about a topic that will be especially interesting for all the men out there. We are already two weeks into November, and like every year a lot of young gentlemen are using this month to let their moustaches grow. Yes, I am talking about Movember.

When I first heard about Movember a couple of years ago, I thought it would be another viral challenge that gets attention for a few weeks and then will never be heard of again. But a little bit of research taught me that Movember is actually more than some men letting their moustaches grow for the fun of it.

Instead, it is a fundraising project from Australia that collects donations during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. The goal of Movember is to ‘change the face of men’s health’.

The Movember Foundation was founded in 2004 by a group of Australian men and has gained more and more attention each year.

You might ask yourself now: How does growing a moustache help anyone with their health issues? Well, the moustache itself obviously does not help any person with their health issues, but growing the beard and sharing it on social media does raise attention for the organisation and therefore also for the issues the organisation is caring about.

For anyone who has not participated yet, don’t worry, it is never too late to start and raise awareness. It doesn’t even matter if you are a man or a woman, making people notice the project is definitely a good thing.

Happy Movember and stay healthy everyone!
