Today I thought I would speak to you about Birmingham’s Central Library, located 2 minutes’ walk from Summer Row and just 1 minute walk from Cambrian Hall. You have definitely seen it by now, right in front of the new ice skating rink.
A visit to the library is highly recommended as there is quite a lot to do and see there and explore. The design and architecture of the library on its own is already intriguing and unique.
If you’re interested in reading, you should definitely register for a library card. Without proof of address, you can borrow up to 3 books, and once you have shown your proof of address, you can borrow up to 10 books. Trust me, you will find books on anything that may interest you, but this is not as far as it goes, as you will also have access to e-books and audio books online!
As you enter the library, you will immediately see the café and cosy chairs, and a souvenir shop which might be interesting to take a look at as Christmas is near! You will even find a classic pinball machine if you wander enough through the ground floor after you pass by the tourist information centre of the library.
On the 4th floor you might be able to do some research on your family tree! Although your chances of succeeding with this will be higher if you are local.
Whatever your reasons to visit, you can enjoy yourself whether you are going there to study or just to relax and have your lunch with views of Birmingham from the gardens, or checkout the skyline of Birmingham from the Library’s 9th floor as well as learning a bit more about Shakespeare on this same floor.
Thank you for reading, have a great week and definitely visit the library if the weather keeps clear!
