Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Hey everyone!

Next week being Eating Disorders Awareness Week, I thought it would be good to spread awareness – this is a subject that deserves special attention as it brings terrible consequences.

First of all, it is important to understand what could cause an eating disorder. It’s directly connected to the following conditions: mental health, social cultural, biological and genetic.

Risk Factors

  • Depression/anxiety
  • Compulsive eating disorder
  • Over-worshipping the body
  • Bad eating habits
  • Self-image distortion
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Hormonal issues
  • Emotional disturbances

Types of eating disorders

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Binge eating disorder
  • Orthorexia
  • Hyperphagia
  • Pica

It is important for all of us to be observant, to encourage healthy eating and to keep active. If any symptoms or signs seem to be surfacing, contact a physician or a health provider. Luckily nowadays, help is not so distant and difficult to reach as it once was – support can now be given to people suffering from eating disorders as well as the ones closest to them affected by this, and they can have all the resources needed for understanding fully about the situation and treatment.

A few movies I thought would be good to spread awareness on eating disorders and something to think about:

To the Bone

Perfect Body

Have a good week everyone, I hope this article has found you well and has raised some awareness towards this topic.
