It was 2017 when I started my Events Management degree course and I remember how, back then, the final year seemed so far away and almost like a dream! Well, guess what? It’s real, and it might be closer than it seems.
As the days and weeks go by, I have started to realised this is the last ‘week 6’ and the last ‘first semester’ of my first experience at university in my life. It might sound lame, but the fact that the end is so near just makes me appreciate each day so much more.
If you are reading this, and you are in your first year, trust me that, however uncertain these times may be, you’ll get there sooner than it might seem. So don’t lose the sight of your goal and keep working hard because one day when you look back, you’ll see that you never stopped growing.
For all you second year students out there, you are halfway there! How exciting that is!! Make sure you apply all you have learned so far and keep that eagerness to learn, even though it might feel like you know so much already. As Greek philosopher Socrates said: “I know I know nothing.” I believe it is also a good time for you to start thinking about where you want to be in two years’ time when you’re out of university, and try and paint that picture in your mind so clearly, you never lose a sight of it! Be ambitious, there is so much potential in each one of you!
And for all final year students and those who are yet about to start, the advice is the same – this is where everything you have known for the last few years ends, and where a new beginning awaits you. Keep your eyes far on the horizon, but also remember to look into yourself and evaluate how far you have come, and get excited about all the things coming. The future might be unclear right now, but give yourself a chance to figure it out. You owe it to yourself.
Some inspirational words from the top of my head for all of you out there! Hope you don’t think I’m being too cheesy, the point I am trying to make is time flies, so make sure you appreciate how far you have come and where you are right now, get excited about everything life has in stock for you because, oh, there is so much!
That’s all from me for this week.
Thanks for reading!
