Life at UCB through the eyes of our student bloggers

What if….?

What if….?

Hey everyone,

Hope you’re all doing well!

This week I’m going to answer the question that most of us have asked ourselves or others multiple times in our lives.

And that is… what if I don’t make it? What if I do not succeed? What if things go wrong?

Well, my answer to those questions is… what if you do make it? What if you do succeed? What if things go right?

I see so many people missing out on opportunities and chances just because they are scared of what’s going to happen after they take that first step.

Well, just 4 months ago I actually started working in a sales and marketing company, where I am enrolled in a management trainee programme and I am starting my own business. But let me start from the beginning.

After spending the summer in Croatia, my home country, I came back to the UK in September 2020. And I remember sitting at the airport after I landed in London, and I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know whether I was going to find a job or not… and the question in my head was… WHAT IF I DON’T MAKE IT? I was scared and full of doubts about my future.

But what if we program our brain to work in our favour, to be courageous, to believe that the universe will take care of us as long as we choose to believe and see the positives even in the darkest of times?

Going back to me sitting at the airport. I had two options: turn back and catch a flight to Croatia, or stay.

And I stayed.

So to answer the question – what if….

What if I turned back? Would I move forward from the point where I was? No. Would I move backwards? Probably not. I’d just be stagnant in the place I was.

I chose to ask myself instead: WHAT IF I DO MAKE IT?

Fast forward, two months later, I found a job with the opportunity to progress, to develop myself professionally and personally, to embark on a new path and new career.

I got promoted after my first 5 weeks in the business, and now I am building my own team which I am looking to move with to a new expansion location in the next 6 months.

So, whenever you find yourself in a situation where you have a choice to ask yourself what if, make sure the question is what if I do make it? What if it turns out in my favour? What if I succeed? The answers to those questions will be much more powerful and positive, instead of asking the question in a different way.

Let that power empower you to believe in yourself and instead of waiting for that one day,  let it be the DAY ONE.

Thanks for reading!
