Hey everyone, hope you had a great weekend!
The title of my blog is ‘I want to break free’… mostly from the lockdown, haha but I want to talk about breaking your comfort zones!
A ship is always safe at the shore – but that’s not what it is built for. 🌊
We talk a lot about breaking comfort zones in the sales and marketing industry where I am currently working, and I remember when I first started I didn’t recognise the importance of it – or better said, didn’t really understand the meaning and purpose behind it.
And what I found on my journey so far is that you have to be uncomfortable in order to be successful, in some ways. If you stay in your comfort zone you would never do the things that you need to do.
For me that was speaking to different people, as my confidence was quite low, so this was definitely one big comfort zone to break. For some people this comes naturally, for others it takes an effort! Once I started speaking to different people from different backgrounds I saw my confidence and communication skills growing, which showed me that in order to break your comfort zone, you just need to do it!
Another big comfort zone for me to break was admitting that I am not where I want to be both in my personal and professional life and asking for help! Being a Capricorn, and being as stubborn as I am, this was definitely something I needed to learn. I tend to rely just on myself, so reaching out to people who care about me and asking for help was not easy, but it helped me recognise my weaknesses and start working on them much sooner, rather than trying to deal with them on my own.
My experience is that you cannot have everything you want but you can have anything you really want, you just need to decide what it is and then plan your exit from the comfort zone.
Stepping out of our comfort zone on a regular basis takes bravery and a willingness to stumble and pick ourselves back up. If we live our lives entirely in our comfort zone, we miss out on thrills and experiences that life can give us.
We do NOT have to be good or perfect – we need only try. If we try, even if we are far from perfect, we learn something. Only then can we improve on ourselves for the future.
Being uncomfortable is a sign of success, not of failure!!
Thanks for reading!
