Hello everyone! So as you can see from the title of this post, I am in deep trouble!
My dissertation was due on 22 April, but I had to ask for an extension due to some personal problems. It’s been a challenging year, but here I am, exposing myself and giving you some reasons why you should NEVER, and I mean NEVER, leave your dissertation to do last minute.
I know some of you probably leave assignments to do last minute and are likely able to get high marks in those. I used to be like that as well, but let me tell you, never do it with your dissertation! When lecturers say it’s a pressure we have never faced before in our academic life, they mean it!
The dissertation is a research paper that requires a lot of dedication, study and comparison, and you are not able to do all of these things effectively if you do it weeks in advance; notice how I said weeks instead of days? Yes, because it is definitely something you cannot do in a few days.
So here go some tips for my fellow colleagues who are due to start their last year in September.
- Attend all your research paper lectures! They are crucial and provide great insight into what must be done in each chapter.
- Start thinking about your aim and objectives. And choose something you are actually interested in, or I’m telling you it will be tough to focus, mainly due to the length of this assignment (10,000 words).
- Start early! But when I say early, I mean EARLY! You should aim to start your research project in October, or at the latest November. This will give you enough time to complete a few drafts, send them to your dissertation supervisor for some feedback and get on with your work.
- And last but not least, attend all the sessions with your supervisor and bring to them any questions you might have and some work completed. They are there to help you, and if you follow their recommendations, you may get an excellent mark on this project.
AHH! And I’m not trying to scare anyone with this post, I just wanted to vent a bit and possibly advise some of you on what not to do and not to follow my steps, hahaha!
See you next week!
