Hey everyone,
Hope you’re doing well!
This week, I wanted to bring your attention to the World Refill Day 2021 which was on 19 June.
World Refill Day is a global public awareness campaign to prevent plastic pollution and help people live with less waste.
We live in a world where plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems faced by the human population, from the plastic in our oceans, which ends up in the fish that we eat and ends up in our system as well! Shocking.
From the top of Mount Everest to the deepest oceans, we know that plastic trash is everywhere on Earth. Now we know it’s in us, too.
You’re eating, swallowing or breathing in about 2,000 tiny pieces of plastic each week, a new study suggests – an amount equal to the weight of one credit card.
“Not only are plastics polluting our oceans and waterways and killing marine life – it’s in all of us and we can’t escape consuming plastics,” said Marco Lambertini of the World Wildlife Fund, which commissioned the study.
This plastic contamination comes from “microplastics” – particles smaller than five millimetres – which are making their way into our food, drinking water and even the air, CNN said.
As a global movement, we have the power to create a wave of change. By choosing to reuse, we’re saving millions of pieces of plastic and sending a message to the rest of the world that the solutions to plastic pollution and the climate crisis are there – and together we can keep our environment, oceans, cities and communities plastic-free for the future.
Reusable bottles are available to buy everywhere and they are super easy to carry around, to wash and to reuse. Such a small step can make a big difference for the environment and the planet. If each one of us starts reusing the bottles, together we can make a big change!
